Promises
What This Song Teaches Us About God
God does not change. People break their word and fail to follow through — God does not. This song is built on that reality: every promise God has made stands firm, His word is reliable, and His character is the unshakable foundation underneath everything we experience. Faith, then, is not a feeling. We often go through seasons where circumstances feel discouraging and the future feels uncertain. This song invites us to anchor ourselves in what is objectively true about God rather than in the shifting weather of our emotions — trust in a God who has proven Himself faithful throughout history and in the lives of His people.
Underneath all of this is a picture of God as a covenant-keeping God. A covenant is a deeply binding agreement, and God makes covenants with His people — solemn commitments He will never walk back on. The greatest of these is the new covenant, sealed in the blood of Jesus, which promises forgiveness, a new heart, and a permanent relationship with God. When this song sings about God’s promises, it is singing about that kind of commitment: not casual, not temporary, but unbreakable.
