Lift High the Name of Jesus

What This Song Teaches Us About God

This song declares that Jesus is not a private religious figure — He is Lord over everything, and His name deserves to be proclaimed publicly and boldly. His name carries weight because of what He has actually done: He conquered sin and death, was exalted to the highest place. When we “lift high” His name, we are not adding to His greatness — we are acknowledging what is already true.

The song also carries a strong call to unity. The vision it holds out is of a gathered community from every nation who have found their identity and hope in the same person. We are not united by preferences or personalities, but by the name of Jesus.

Scripture Connections

  • Philippians 2:9-11 — God has exalted Jesus to the highest place and given Him the name above every name, so that every knee will bow and every tongue confess that He is Lord.
  • Acts 4:12 — There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved — the name of Jesus is not one option among many, but the only way to God.
  • Psalm 34:3 — “Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt his name together” — communal, public praise for God’s name is woven throughout Scripture.
