His Glory and My Good

What This Song Teaches Us About God

God’s pursuit of His own glory and His commitment to our good are not competing interests — they are the same thing. The cross is the clearest proof: the death of Jesus was the greatest display of God’s glory — His justice, His love, His power, and His grace all revealed at once — and it was also the greatest act of good ever done for humanity. You cannot separate God’s glory from the good of His people at the cross, and that remains true throughout the life of every person who follows Jesus.

When life is hard or confusing, it can feel like God is either not good or not powerful enough to help. Romans 8:28 holds the answer: God works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. The good He is working toward is not whatever we happen to want — it is conformity to the image of His Son. Our hardships are not evidence that God has abandoned us. They are often the very path through which He shapes and refines us. His glory and our good are still moving together, even when we cannot see it.
