Great Are You Lord

Great Are You Lord

What This Song Teaches Us About God

“You give life, You are love, You bring light to the darkness” gives the reason for the song’s repeated declaration: “Great are You, Lord.” God’s greatness is not a vague feeling raised by the music. It is grounded in who He is and what He does. He is the giver of life, the source of love, and the one who brings light where there was darkness.

The song also reminds us that worship is a response to what God has first given. “It’s Your breath in our lungs, so we pour out our praise” means even our ability to praise Him is a gift from Him. We do not bring God something He lacks. We return praise with the breath He gave.
